Ejido Community Farm Solar Project

IWF is the fiscal sponsor and administrative partner for the Ejido Farm Project, a 65 acre community farm that will be owned and operated by immigrant farmworker families in Whatcom County, Washington.

This collaboration between the Institute for Washington’s Future and Community to Community Development is based on the belief in green economic development, and the Ejido Community Farm Solar Project is the vision and result of those shared values.

The mission of this project was to install 46 Mission Solar Modules at 1240 Central Road in Everson, WA to provide 14.26kW of energy for the Ejido Community Farm Project. Spurred by actions and enterprises imagined and executed by constituents of the community partner, Community to Community Development we successfully completed phase one of the project which entailed completing a feasibility study, design, and plan for installation. This stage of the solar project was accomplished thanks to a grant and collaboration with Spark NW.

Spark NW facilitated solicitation of a design and bid by Western Solar to install the 46 Mission Solar Modules to produce 14.26kW of energy to the Ejido Community Farm. Western Solar toured the farm and consulted with IWF, C2C, and Tierra y Libertad.

Our organization determined Wester Solar Inc to be the most pragmatic choice in contractor to complete the Ejido Farm Solar Project panels. They have been open since 2002 and have established relationships with local businesses and organizations, such as being the contracted company for the local Interfaith Coalition of Whatcom County’s Our House Project and Habitat for Humanity’s Passive House Project. This company shares goals with our organization of finding the most cost-effective energy-saving solutions with the goal of reducing dependency on fossil fuels and contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, Western Solar Inc is a PSE Contractor Alliance Certified Specialist as well as being a member of Sustainable Connections.

This project was completed in January 2021.
